“I don’t want to be known as this bitter, ex-Scientologist,” Leah Remini told BuzzFeed last week in an interview.
The happy days are here again for a woman who was borderline tortured for a cult that her mother had been indoctrinated into. Leah was a child caught in a home where the Scientology powers that be forced her to submit to their Xenu-laced doctrine with reports of hard labor and a life of squalor in her early years.
Leah Remini, the “Kings of Queens” actress who hoofed it up on ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars,” is now going to star in a new TV series. It was during the ABC reality series that she opened up to ABC news on camera and spilled the beans on a cult that includes Kirstie Alley, Jenna Elfman , Laura Prepon, Danny Masterson and Giovanni Ribisi to name a few.
TLC announced the news for a 12 half-hour episodes of an untitled Leah Remini reality show. Production begins today for a planned summer premiere.
“Leah is a no-nonsense, hard-working, relatable mom, wife, daughter and sister. Her sharp humor and unfiltered family are a perfect match for the network,” says TLC’s Nancy Daniels.
Leah’s husband of 10 years, Angelo, a devoted father who helps run their family diner, and their daughter Sofia, 9, who apparently “isn’t afraid to keep her parents in check” will also star in the reality series.
Prepare to meet Leah’s opinionated mother who endured the insanity that was the Scientology cult.
Remini tells Buzzfeed: ““We went from a middle-class lifestyle [in Brooklyn, N.Y.] to living in a roach-infested motel with six other girls off a freeway in Clearwater,”
Remini added: “We were separated from our mother. We had to sign billion-year contracts we didn’t understand. And we kept saying, ‘Why are you doing this to us? Why are we here?’”
