Iconic American actor Larry Hagman has been diagnosed with cancer.
Mr. Hagman is well known for his starring role as the scheming Ewing family patriarch in the 1980’s smash hit “Dallas,” which is being rebooted by TNT.
The 80-year-old actor was cast by the producer David Jacobs as J.R. Ewing on “Dallas.”
In a statement Friday, Mr. Hagman said: “As J.R. I could get away with anything — bribery, blackmail and adultery. But I got caught by cancer.”
Hagman said that his cancer was “a very common and treatable form.” He plans to continue working with TNT and producers for the new “Dallas” which begins production next week.
Mr. Hagman quipped: “As we all know, you can’t keep J.R. down!”
