L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s affair exposed

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa of Los Angeles has been caught in a classic love triangle, and his wife has filed for divorce.

Villaraigosa “confessed” yesterday he has been seeing Spanish-language TV anchor Mirthala Salinas for a year.

Villaraigosa, 54, announced his affair with the Spanish language Telemundo anchor, who has reported on him for her station, at a news conference after a local paper broke the story.

“I have a relationship with Ms. Salinas and I take full responsibility for my actions,” he said.

The Mayor was once Tony Villar until he met and married Corina Raigosa, 49.  His name became Villaraigosa after their union.

The New York Post reports that Salinas, 35, went on the air June 8 with news of the mayor’s split. “The rumors are true,” reported Salinas said in Spanish. “Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa confirmed today that he is separating from his wife, Corina, after more than 20 years of marriage.”

“I can tell you emphatically that that question is outrageous and the answer is no, she is not pregnant,” Villaraigosa said of Salinas.

Los Angeles politcal observers note that the odds are in favor of the ambitious Mayor Villaraigosa eyeing the California governor’s mansion.

The Mayor yesterday described Salinas as “a consummate journalistic professional.”

The Mayor claims he told Telemundo producers that he needed to have a different journalist assigned to him, as “our friendship had grown to a point where it was necessary to inform her management that she shouldn’t cover me.”

Mrs. Villaraigosa has remained in the mayor’s residence with their four children kids; while he has moved on.
