Karl Lagerfeld selects Lily Allen for Chanel handbag layout

Designer Karl Lagerfeld, who famously remarked that supermodel Heidi Klum was unknown to him, has handpicked British singer Lily Allen to rep Chanel’s handbags.

During recent promos for the German version of “Top Model,” designer Wolfgang Joop said Heidi Klum was too fat to be on the show: “No way,” Joop told BILD. “She is no runway model! Heidi Klum is simply too heavy and has too big a bust. And she always grins so stupidly. That is not avant-garde – that is commercial!”

Along with Joop, model agency head Louisa von Minckwitz says Heidi is too wide in general. Her measurements are 91-69-94, which translated in inches would be 36-27-37.  Chanel’s Karl Lagerfeld said: “I don’t know Heidi Klum. She was never known in France. Claudia Schiffer also doesn’t know who she is.”

Now Lagerfeld, according to Woman’s Wear Daily, link has selected Allen as the face of the Chanel handbag campaign.  “She’s fun,” enthused Lagerfeld, who plans to turn his lens on the British pop star next week.

Allen herself has been vilified for her weight issues in the press.
