“Dancing with the Stars” champion Julianne Hough in final talks to star opposite Tom Cruise in Warner Bros.’ screen adaptation of the Broadway musical “Rock of Ages” for New Line Cinema.

According to Variety, “Hairspray” director Adam Shankman will direct and choreograph the film.

The musical’s creator, Chris D’Arienzo, wrote the screen adaptation with Shankman and Justin Theroux doing a polish.

Hough would play the Sherrie Christian role while Cruise will play the arrogant rocker Stacee Jaxx. Mary J. Blige, who was also previously cast, will play Justice.

The story revolves around two dreamers who meet at the Sunset Strip club Rock of Ages, fall in love and try to stay together.

Alec Baldwin and Russell Brand are also reportedly circling roles in the film.

Carl Levin, Matthew Weaver, Scott Prisand, Tobey Maguire and Jennifer Gibgot will produce.

The soundtrack for the musical is set to ’80s rock anthems made popular by Journey, Twisted Sister, Joan Jett, Bon Jovi, Pat Benatar and other groups.

The musical premiered in Los Angeles in 2006, was on Broadway three years later and received five Tony nominations.

Shooting begins May 19 in Florida.
