Jewel to shine as new host of “Nashville Star”

Jewel is set to shine when the USA Network’s “Nashville Star” starts its fifth season. The singer/songwriter is set to be the show’s hosts as hopefuls compete to be the next big country star and win a country music recording contract.
The fifth season will begin airing on Jan. 11, 2007, and Cowboy Troy is expected to take the stage with Jewel as the show’s co-host. The show is also expected to air from the BellSouth Acuff Theatre in Nashville, Tenn.

“I grew up on a ranch in Alaska, and my favorite memories are of sitting around a campfire with my father and listening to the songs he wrote and sang,” the 32-year-old singer-songwriter said in a statement. “It was pure country music, and it has made me a sincere fan of country music ever since.”

Jewel latest album was “Goodbye Alice in Wonderland,” and the singer has saw success on the charts with singles like “Who Will Save Your Soul?” and “You Were Meant for Me.” She also starred in Ang Lee’s Civil War film “Ride with the Devil.”
