Jennifer Garner ‘butters’ up with Mandate

Mandate has picked up options for satirical comedy ‘Butter,’ with an eye for Jennifer Garner to star.

According to the Hollywood Reporter the script was written by newcomer Jason Micallef. No director has been set but Craig Gillespie and Gary Ross have been mentioned.

The story follows a young orphan who is adopted by a Midwestern family. Growing up she discovers a latent ability to carve butter. This leads to her going head-to-head with the driven wife of the retired town champion in the annual butter-carving contest.

Micallef told the trade magazine that he was looking to do political satire and so looked for something that people took very seriously but was also ridiculous.

Garner may also produce with Michael De Luca.
