Inferno to sail with ‘Whale Wars’ biopic

Inferno Entertainment will executive produce “Ocean Warrior,” a biopic about Animal Planet’s reality TV series “Whale Wars” star Capt. Paul Watson.

According to Variety, the film will be a co-production of See Pictures in Australia, TED Pictures and Transfilm in Canada and Calt in France.

Keith Ross Leckie and Julie Allan will write the script.

“Ocean Warrior” is an action-thriller that follows Watson’s early days as a member of Greenpeace and his creation of the controversial Sea Shepherd Conservation Society in 1977 after being expelled from the organization. His group engages in ocean battles against illegal whaling ships.

The reality show “Whale Wars” follows Watson and his group as they attempt to stop Japanese ships from hunting whales off the coast of Antarctica in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary.

Watson convinced the Discovery Channel to make the show in 2007. It premiered on Animal Planet in November 2008, recently concluded its third season and has been renewed for a fourth season.
