Yesterday, Bing and DoSomething.org kicked off the Bing Summer of Doing with a day of service at Heart of Los Angeles (HOLA) with Hilary Duff, Cody Simpson, Teresa Palmer, Rachael Leigh Cook, and more.
The celebrities worked alongside volunteers from DoSomething.org and representatives from Bing to paint two new murals, restore the school’s rec room area, build a new garden area, and provide a fresh new coat to some of the bathrooms.
New mom Hilary Duff took some time to help build HOLA’s new sustainable garden area and painted one of the new murals with the volunteers.
When asked how she is adjusting to motherhood, she gushed about breastfeeding, watching her son change as he grows each day, and getting back into pre-baby shape.
Rachael Leigh Cook, who stars in the new TNT series Perception alongside Eric McCormack, got her hands dirty as she fertilized and planted in the garden. She shared her excitement with the volunteers about the Bing Summer of Doing, saying she’s always looking for ways to give back during her free time, but never knows quite where to start.
Other celebrity volunteers who helped make the HOLA restorations possible included: Keke Palmer (True Jackson), Teresa Palmer (I Am Number Four), Phoebe Tonkin (Secret Circle), up-and-coming boyband IM5, Tinsel Korey (Twilight); Cassie Scerbo (Make it or Break It); Ryan Ochoa (iCarly); and Haley Pullos (General Hospital).
HOLA students were surprised with the new renovations, which they celebrated at the end of the day with a surprise performance by Cody Simpson and party with the volunteers. Simpson performed a three-song acoustic set, which included his new single “Got me Good,” after helping to finish painting a mural inside HOLA’s parks building.
A national daily challenge called “The Hunt, 11 Days of Doing” will inspire young people to do 11 days of challenges focused on creating positive community impact. Starting July 10th, teens will be faced with a new series of challenges focused on a specific cause every day. Teams will work together to complete all the challenges and report back to show how they were able to create measurable impact in their community, all while collecting points to win prizes.
To find out how to get involved in your own community, visit www.Bing.com/doing or search for local projects on Bing.com and use the new Bing to get inspiration from your friends for how to give back this summer.
