Harry Potter book sells about 5,000 copies per minute in the U.S. alone

It’s a record breaker. Not even the other Harry Potters have had such a demand, so fast. The Associated Press reports that 8.3 million copies of the last Harry Potter book sold within the first 24 hours, according to the publisher, Scholastic.

That means an average of books were sold about 300,000 per hour and 5,000 per minute. The article also reports that this final book produced more money than the latest Potter film Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

The producers of the film even had to admit their sales were down that weekend because fans were ‘too busy’ with the new book.

These skyrocketing figures are also only for the U.S. Bloomsbury, the British publisher, has yet to release its sales figures.
