Goodbye to Jay Leno, Billy Crystal Interview Full of Remembrances VIDEOS
It’s an emotional send off, as Jay Leno has to leave his own show.
Ratings have never been better, and for the last few months all the booked guests have shared special stories of their time on the show, and of how much Leno meant to them.
Tonight Billy Crystal becomes Jay’s final “Tonight Show” guest and spills the beans on Leno’s early days in Boston, where his “cave man” apartment had a poster of comedian Robert Klein over his bed.
Crystal does his own monologue tribute to Jay. Later, Crystal shares the story of the first time he ever met Jay over 22 years ago. Finally, Crystal brings out some surprise celebrity guests to help give Jay a huge musical sendoff.
Garth Brooks performs.
Interview will air tonight, Thursday, February 06 at 11:35 p.m. ET on NBC.
JAY LENO’S MONOLOGUE
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 6, 2014
I DON’T LIKE GOOD BYES. NBC DOES. I DON’T CARE. I DON’T CARE FOR THEM.
WELL TONIGHT IS OUR LAST SHOW FOR REAL. SEE I DON’T NEED TO GET FIRED THREE TIMES, I GET THE HINT. I GET THE HINT.
YOU KNOW BEING TOGETHER ALL THESE YEARS. VERY CLOSE STAFF. IT’S KIND OF LIKE GRADUATING FROM HIGH SCHOOL. A HIGH SCHOOL FOR REALLY STUPID PEOPLE THAT HAVE BEEN IN THE SAME CLASS FOR 22 YEARS. IT’S KIND OF WHAT IT’S LIKE.
I GOT TO TELL YOU THE OUTPOURING FROM PEOPLE HAS REALLY BEEN TOUCHING. TODAY, ANTHONY WEINER SENT ME A PHOTO OF HIS PENIS LOOKING SAD. MISS YOU. LOVE YOU. MISS YOU..
SO MUCH HAS HAPPENED IN THE LAST 22 YEARS. YOU KNOW THE SADDEST PART OF ALL; OJ NEVER FOUND THE REAL KILLERS.
AND THE WORST THING ABOUT LOSING THIS JOB, I’M NO LONGER COVERED BY NBC, I HAVE TO SIGN UP FOR OBAMACARE.
WHEN I STARTED HOSTING, JUSTIN BIEBER WASN’T EVEN BEEN BORN YET. THAT’S WHY WE CALL THOSE “THE GOOD OLD DAYS.”
I THOUGHT THIS WAS INTERESTING. IT WAS REVEALED THIS WEEK THAT IN THE PAST COUPLE YEARS HUGH GRANT HAS FATHERED 3 CHILDREN WITH 2 DIFFERENT WOMEN. HOW IRONIC IS THAT. I END MY RUN THE SAME WAY IT BEGAN – ASKING HUGH GRANT “WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING?” 22 YEARS LATER, I ASK HIM THE SAME QUESTION.
