Glasgow Art Rock Dominates the Brit Awards

UK rock act, Franz Ferdinand are set to dominate the 25th annual Brit awards.

The Scottish band has been nominated for best British album, British Rock Act, British Live Act and Breakthrough Act.

Franz Ferdinand are from Glasgow, where incidentally M&C is based, and formed in 2001. Their name comes from Austro-Hungarian Archduke whose assassination started WWI.

The band released their debut EP Darts Of Pleasure on Domino Records in September 2003 to great critical acclaim. This was followed by the singles Take Me Out (February 2004), Matinee (April 2004) and This Fire (November 2004).

The album Franz Ferdinand was released in February 2004 and fans await their new album with great anticipation.

Close behind are English rock band Muse, who are up for the same bar breakthrough.

Other contenders are Kasabian, Keane, Snow Patrol, Will Young, The Streets and Natasha Bedingfield.

International acts nominated include the Scissor Sisters and Maroon 5.

Finally Sir Bob Geldolf will be awarded for his Outstanding Contribution to music.

The awards ceremony will take place on February 9 at Earls Court in London. It will be broadcast on the UK ITV terrestrial channel.
