Rumours suggesting the upcoming GDC unveiling of Gears of War 2 are presently doing the rounds - with little to back them up by way of fact. Well, here is a Gears of War fact for those fans who simply cannot get enough of the game’s gritty aesthetics and award-winning destroyed beauty…

Specifically, NECA (National Entertainment Collectibles) has this week announced the release of a range of superb Gears of Wars action figures, which are scheduled to arrive in stores later in the spring.

Described as the “first wave” in an ongoing line of top-quality figures, NECA’s opening Gears of War offerings will include the game’s central protagonist Marcus Fenix, along with squad member Augustus Cole and a disgusting Locust Drone.

Boasting “an unprecedented amount of detail,” which includes articulation and game-accurate character accessories, NECA believes its Gears of War action figures will appeal to Gears fans and quality action figure collectors alike.

And, in terms of appealing to the expansive Gears of War faithful, NECA certainly has the advantage of massive sales to draw upon - not least because the Xbox 360 and PC title has thus far sold more than 4 million copies around the world.

Along the way, Epic Games’ action-packed third-person spectacular gathered ‘Game of the Year’ from GameSpot, and also the much-coveted ‘Overall Game of the Year’ award from the Interactive Achievement Awards.

Other existing action figure videogame licenses held by NECA include Castlevania and Resident Evil.

Expect more information regarding the Gears of War collectibles a little closer to their scheduled retail arrival.
