Fanboys set to explode following TIME’s top ten games of 2007

This week has seen underwater epic BioShock scoop the first notable ‘Game of the Year’ honour at the 2007 Spike TV Video Game Awards, which has met with fanboy accusations of Microsoft favouritism seeing as not one Nintendo or Sony title made the coveted shortlist. And now, fleshy fanboy explosions are likely to sound around the world following the publishing of TIME Magazine’s top ten games of 2007.

In this particular case, while Sony fans will be left seething that the PlayStation 3 is not represented beyond cross platform titles, it’s more probable that general gaming fans will be taking issue with TIME’s ordering rather than the included selection.

For example, TIME places Halo 3 at the top of the pile, closely followed by Half-Life 2: The Orange Box in second, and Rock Band, which rounds out the top three.

While there’s no denying Halo 3’s unprecedented pull commercially, it’s debateable that Bungie’s more-of-the-same FPS series finale is the year’s best game when compared against the originality and invention evident in the likes of Super Mario Galaxy (4) or BioShock (5) – both of which have higher cumulative review score averages.

Also, the inclusion of Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation might provoke a degree of fervent discussion across the board – not least with PS3 owners – while the likes of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, and Assassin’s Creed are not even placed in the bottom half of the list.

Here it is in full:

1: Halo 3
2: The Orange Box
3: Rock Band
4: Super Mario Galaxy
5: BioShock
6: Call of Duty 4
7: Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
8: Mass Effect
9: Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation
10: God of War 2

Happy with that ordering? Missing a game you love? Feel free to let the flame war begin!
