Live market place dies offer video downloads (like 20 here in Canada) but even though they claim to be high def- they are not. Digital downloading of movies is nice but cannot compete with ownership of a disc or the 50gb BluRay storage limits. M$ and others have deceived the public with fake HD offerings. Also consider the bandwidth restictions many have and downloading 1 or 2 movies a month will cost you dearly.

I believe that this posting is for the NEXT Xbox; not the Xbox 360. While digital distribution is probably going to be the primary method for game and content distribution on the next console, but it may not be. There is no specific information in the job posting to indicate that it will; and comments made about the demise of HD-DVD do not refer in any way to the job posting or what might be on the next Xbox. You're connecting dots that don't have sequential numbers ...

A few points as to why Blu-ray doesn't have to worry about digital distribution. At least the digital distribution that's available currently on Xbox Live.

1. The movies offered for download on Live are not truly HD as they're only 720p. At this point in time, TRUE HD is considered to be 1080p and as consumers become increasingly savvy, they'll know the difference.

2. The movies you download can't be kept. they only last 24hrs.

3. People love to have physical copies of their movies. Even pirates who download movies like to burn them to disc for collecting purposes (as well as to watch on their TVs).

There seems to be one problem with your last paragraph where you state

In order to enjoy XBOX Live and download your 24 hour rental movie you have to Purchase a Player called the XBOX 360. So you still need to buy piece of hardware to play your movies on.

I like the others above will enjoy Blu-ray as it will probably be the last physical format for movies. I truly like having my movies on Disc so I can watch them whenever I want without having to pay another $3.00 or whatever the price. I just pick up the disc, stick it in the Player and watch my movie and I only have to pay once.

That is the Way I like It!!!

Who gives a rats about true HD, oh wow look i can count every hair on that blokes eyebrow. Face it, in the not so far future disc formatting will no longer exsist. buggered if i know what they will be using, but it sure as hell wont be discs. And movies on xbox live or any other GAMING console doesn't fit, sorry that's how i see it. Gaming = games. if they do chose to stick with downloading movies for new Xbox you can be pretty sure that they will be true HD, simply because microsoft can and have the power to do so.

It is funny to go from pushing the HD DVD add on, which undoubtedly make MS money... to pushing downloads which are time consuming and annoying which again surely make MS even more money
