Disney reveals Pure off-road racing

You might not know it, but apparently the off-road racing genre is in serious need of some radical redefinition. Indeed, if you’re prepared to listen to publisher Disney Interactive Studios, it would appear existing off-road award winners such as Motorstorm and Colin McRae DiRT are guilty of cutting the racing cheese, not the mustard… which is where Pure conveniently comes in. Credit: Disney.Being developed by Black Rock (Moto GP, ATV Offroad Fury) for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Games for Windows, Pure promises to take off-road quad bike racing to a whole new level through a blend of gravity-defying aerial leaps, massive jumps, and spectacular airborne tricks. Factor in real-world locations, photo-realistic graphics, quad-racing authenticity, and heart-pounding speed and, well, Pure could deliver a gaming experience as pure as its title.“We expect Pure to set a new standard for off-road racing that delivers adrenaline-inducing vertical experiences with spectacular aerial tricks and intense wheel-to-wheel racing,” comments Craig Relyea, senior VP of global marketing at Disney Interactive Studios. “Pure will appeal to a wide audience based on the game’s jaw-dropping aerial tricks, breakneck racing and vast environments.”

Pure will cater to both racing sexes by offering up a variety of male and female character riders before flinging the player bodily into international white-knuckle races against capable A.I. opponents or up to 16 players via online multiplayer.What’s more, adding to the purism of Pure, the game’s development is being bolstered by the assistance of Wes Miller, pro-quad rider and founder of H-Bomb Films, who’s onboard to ensure that the racing properly adheres to “quad culture” while allowing the implementation of creative liberty.With a title such as Pure, Disney and Black Rock are gifting prospective game reviewers with the perfect prefix for their superlatives… though the likes of pure racing heaven and pure adrenaline-fuelled genius, could quickly become pure racing dross and pure disappointment-fuelled mediocrity.
