This seems to follow MS's previous policy: gradual update rather than one big upgrade (SONY style). So far worked better for them: gained market share from temporarily being ahead of the competition, create more hype (multiple launches). On the flip side, they also create some unhappy customers who just purchased the now 'old' version. I won't buy one now. I'm sure MS will launch an improved version just in time for christmas: they are obviously holding back: integrated HD DVD, Wi-Fi, Bigger Hard Drive, better video card, etc. It's an interesting game they're playing while keeping everyone on etheie toes: what's next and when? Hey... wait a minute.... that's other Steve's Job...

I have and love my 360.
I am playing on a 62' HD Samsung.
WIll my games appear sharper with the Elite HDMI cable or do i need to wait until they make HD games?
For instance I'm playing MotoGP 06 will it improve the graphics?

Thanks,
Duke

Microsoft's new xbox 'elite' as they call it is rushed just to compete with the PS3. It looks crap as well. PS3 is way better in looks and hard drive can be upgraded to more than 120gig. One other thing- they 360 elite still doesn't come with a hd-dvd hi-def player built in, though who wants one; blu-ray is far more ahead. THe xbox 360 elite will still have that horrible power supply as well unlike ps3; it's built in. Xbox losers!

Yes it will look sharper compared to using component but not sure how different it will look compared to VGA.
I currently use VGA and is much sharper than component but some may argue that the colours aren't as deep/bright and has a washed out look.
To be honest I don't see this as a problem as I just up the colour settings on my samsung and you soon forget it looks that way. (also, if you are gonna get the vga cable, get the ms one. I first brought a cheap one and I had pixel doubling.

Hope this helps

Its really funny how after spending $1000 I am not a loser. And yet if I spend $600 I am considered a loser. Oh did I forget to mention that PS3 does not have a HDMI cable, you need to buy it separately. I can completely 'not' understand the logic behind making a system Hi-Def and then forcing people to buy accessories to make use of that feature. Atleast with the new Xbox it provides an HDMI port + cable so I dont have to go looking for a new one. All those who bought a PS3 must really be happy with the only one game that has received any positive reaction. All us Xbox losers have over 150 games to choose from. I guess we are the losers here. Oh and did I fail to mention that for $1000 I can get both an Elite and a Wii.

What is all this yup about havin' a blue ray or HD drive? For the PS3 dum dums if blue ray happens to loose the war in this format war think about the loss. Thats the most important reason as to why MS is not putting its eggs in one basket. Additionally you can get HD movies via live which PS3 DOESN'T offer. IPTV will be coming this november to put the final nail in the coffin. Movies, Gaming, Live TV all in one its over for sony.

Escentially, the elite is for rich kids who know what the best console choice is on the market. I don't have an hd tv but I have a 360 (pro) and the idea of buying a ps3 was just kinda silly. All Ps3 has above 360 (elite that is) is built in wi-fi (which you don't really need if you have ethernet cord) and blu-ray. Although blu-ray has so far beaten hd dvd, it doesn't mean it's a won fight. HD dvd will be the choice of computer drive whereas blu-ray will be movies. Is it just me or does the 120gig harddrive (twice the size of sony's largest ps3 drive[60gigs]) out weigh blu-ray? (yes it does) With so much space you can merely download entire hd movies through xbox live and save them on it. If you have the money, then buy an elite. It's an invesment.

For those wondering if HDMI will make a difference in picture quality:
It is really up to the viewer. Some people CAN see a difference, while others can't. If you can't, then you don't need HDMI.

That's the rule of thumb also with generic cables and MONSTERS brand cables... if YOU can tell a difference, then go for the higher end once. If you can't, then its pointless.

Ok...good, logical points.

The only thing I was concerned with is the compatability of the premium XBOX360 for the future use with IPTV. It seems this is a feature they are pushing with the Elite version. If the premium will do what the Elite package does in this regard then everything you've said holds true.

I'll buy the 120 HDD but I have already taken my premium 360 and stepped it up to HDMI by buying a switch device. It's a device, a little black box, that has one side for the input of the VGA from the analog 360 and the other side has a HDMI output to go to my HDTV. In converts the analog signal to digital & it looks great. I also have the HD-DVD player add on and you can truly see a difference. The switch cost me $189.00 therefore saving me from trying to sell my current 360 for at best $150 and then having to spend the $479 on this new elite.

No, it doesnt come with a hd drive. Here's why.... Peter Moore said that he wants to give consumers a choice on whether they want it or not... if they included it in the 360, they would have to increase the price, and some people just want to play games. So no, you stil have to buy the hd dvd.

Why You Want HDMIMar 31st, 2007 - 01:04:31

If you want 1080p TRUE HD on your TV, the best way to do it is to use an HDMI cable. Only a few TVs support 1080p over VGA and almost none support it over component.

SO HECTOR- you are wrong, the difference between 720p and 1080p is huge for HD DVDs.

More than a year and I still have 8 gigs free on my HDD.
None of my better than HD lcd monitors accept HDMI and I think VGA looks great @ 1080p.
The Black looks cool but so does the white.
Could have used a 65nm new redisgned Mobo but I guess that will be in another year.
Sent my machine back three, yes three times, so I got a two year warranty this time.
Guess I'll have to wait 6 or so months for this one to blow and see which one I get.

Reduce the price.
