Super Smash Bros Brawl hit with delay

The Nintendo Wii may still be revelling in the glowing glory provided by 2007’s first-party winners such as Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and Super Mario Galaxy, but it would appear that 2008 isn’t getting off to the best of starts for the innovative little console.

Specifically, those Wii gamers currently biting their fingernails down to the quick in anticipation of the February 10 release of Super Smash Bros Brawl should sit themselves down in preparation of the following, courtesy of the game’s official Web site:

"Due to delays in the completion of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, we’ve had to change the release date of the game to Sunday, March 9th [in the US]. I deeply apologize to the people who have looked forward to playing the game for so long and ask that you hold on just a little longer. Thank you for your patience."

No rumour, no idle speculation, no fanboy brinksmanship, just more straight from the horse’s mouth disappointment regarding everyone’s favourite Nintendo-branded brawler - from creator Masahiro Sakurai himself.

Initial reaction to this latest delay suggests Nintendo is holding Super Smash Bros Brawl from retail in order to apply a little more loving elbow grease, surely not something to be criticised if the end product is all the better for it.

The Japanese release of the game has only shifted back by a week moving from to January 24 to January 31.
