Virtual Console fans hoping for their usual dose of weekly Shop Channel variety will have to make do with somewhat of a mini content update today, with only one classic videogame offering throwing up a puff of glorious white powder as 1080° Snowboarding carves its way onto Nintendo’s download portal. "Traverse the half-pipe from the comfort of your living room," enthuses the Nintendo blurb. "With this classic game, it's Winter Break all the time… It’s all the fun and excitement of the sport, without the bruises and frostbite."Billed as one of the very first "truly realistic" snowboarding videogames, and with one Shigeru Miyamoto on its design team, 1080° Snowboarding allows players to select from one of five mixed-sex characters – each offering unique gameplay attributes and tricks – before then choosing a suitable board and heading for the slopes.

Adding to the mix, the game has six different game modes to choose from, which include Match Race, Trick Attack, and 2-player versus mode. Beyond the obvious thrill of downhill speed, players can also expect to unlock hidden characters and boards, as well as traverse variable weather conditions, experience multiple event pathways, and master a wide variety of boarding tricks. Originally a Nintendo 64 title, 1080° Snowboarding is a one or two-player experience that carries a family-friendly ESRB rating of ‘E for Everyone.’ Available from 9am Pacific Standard Time in North America, all the game’s thrilling snowbound excitement can be yours in exchange for a mere 1,000 Wii Points.Get it while it's cold.
