With expectation levels building to an absolute frenzy with Nintendo fans as the retail release of Super Smash Bros. Brawl looms ever larger on the horizon, lucky gamers in Japan will tomorrow (Jan 26) get the opportunity to put the game through its paces courtesy of retail demo units.

And, to make US and EU gamers seethe with even more green-faced envy, it would appear that the demo units – which will appear in thirty stores across Japan – will not be spreading outside of the region before the game hits its release. We can only hope that Nintendo offers up something to the contrary in the next few days.
IGN reports that Nintendo has previously opted out of delivering Wii game demo units to retailers due to safety concerns related to the physical nature of the console’s integrated gameplay. However, that factor does not apply to Super Smash Bros. Brawl as its control system is strictly conventional.
In other Super Smash Bros. Brawl news, the tantalising appearance of pre-launch demo units might end up backfiring on Nintendo following rumours that suggest retailers could be facing shortages of the game.
Japanator outlines that software shortage have been noted in Japan ahead of the game’s launch, with retailers such as Lepton claiming that it will only be taking stock of around 150 copies even though it has logged more than 800 orders.
Here’s hoping that any resulting gaming brawls are strictly limited to on-screen characters and don’t see infuriated consumers launching themselves at blameless shop assistants… or attempting to pry open those handily placed demo units.
