It will definitly NOT fit on the 500MB but, they might be able to make it 'streaming' or just download what you are going to use for the moment. like it will have pics and info... and then download the in game stuff... and redelete to reshow the menu. but it will save controll info and names. The that is the only way it could work.. but that would also mean it would only have 1-4 characters downloaded at a time, and only one map at a time. which means LOADING TIMES!!! but you will be able to play it if they decide to do that. :P
Sorry but this was originally posted on IGN board, and since then the person who created this himself made a confession that he made it, even going to the extent of telling everyone how he did it.
tedd.kramer is his username, on the boards (which i cannot link you to due to anti-spamming things on this site) he says:
I honestly thought the error code would be a sufficient bang.
I guess I may as well explain what I did.
Well, for one, I did this all way before I was prepared.. I should've made all these screens and videos ahead of time, but still, a lot of people did believe me, so .
Well, for the channel preview thing, I just pasted the Smash Bros. logo in a blank space with a red to white gradient background. It wasn't anything fancy, but then again neither was this dumbass 'Beta Test'.
The second image I did I tried to make a believable Wii menu, which I think I accomplished.
The download screen was another two minutes, but atleast I made it easier to edit so it'd actually look like it was loading.
The video was a joke to do. I just took it into Macromedia Flash and made the word loading flash while also adding another tick to the download to make people believe it was progressing.
Then the whole shwack of images after that were photoshops I did earlier today that I planned to use later, but the ERROR! screen was something I made just in case I realized I didn't want to go through animating video after video (its not hard, but it is time consuming).
Things I didn't lie about:
-Laundry
-Dinner
-Gay little brother
-Leaving for the evening
Also, I don't even have a wii hooked up to this TV, it all streamed over from the s-video cable on my computer which happens to be about 15 feet away.
EDIT: Damn it, I should've made the last thing on it a link to the rick roll video on youtube. Damn.

I understand that they say that in this article, it doesn't require much memory to play a demo, but will the demo still be smaller than 500 megs? It seems unlikely, but I am sure it isn't impossible. Wii really needs to allow users to use hard drives.
