The Nintendo Wii might currently be a global rarity for most consumers looking to enjoy its unique innovation while chocking down yet more turkey leftovers, but for one sick young girl in Australia, experiencing the wonder of Wii wasn’t something left to chance or eBay this Christmas. Credit: Mike Dugdale.More pointedly, 11-year-old Taylor Smith, who has suffered with degenerative muscle disease arthrogryposis all her life, was gifted with her very own Wii this festive period – courtesy of Nintendo – after a family friend wrote to Nintendo in Australia asking for its assistance."She always finds a way to do things," commented Tony Watkins, who contacted Nintendo after watching Taylor, who has limited mobility in her arms and legs, taking on the challenge provided by his children’s Wii. Arthrogryposis has left Taylor with no muscles in her arms, which makes simple daily tasks extremely difficult for her to undertake. However, Mr. Watkins outlines that, with the help of four elastic hair scrunchies, he was able to secure the Wii Remote to Taylor’s arm, leaving her free to enjoy the interactive gameplay offered by the Wii. After receiving Mr Watkins’ letter, Nintendo duly delivered a free Wii bundle to Taylor’s home, which has led to her being bodily able to participate in physical games with her family for the very first time. "It’s great to see her smile," enthused Mr. Watkins in a Geelong Advertiser report.And, as for young Taylor, the Nintendo Wii is perfect and certainly well received, while five-games-in-one title Wii Sports is presently her favourite game.
