From Monsters and Critics.com PS3 News Not that ravenous Metal Gear fans needed any more motivational excitement ahead of the oft-delayed retail arrival of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots on the PlayStation 3, but publisher Konami has this week stealthily moved to poke them in the ribs with a rather tasty bundle of temptation. Meet Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection, which is set for release on the stalwart PlayStation 2 and will cram classics Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2 (director’s cut), and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater into a distinctly ‘carrot before the donkey’ commemorative package. “Since its inception, the Metal Gear Solid franchise has been one of the most successful game series in the history of video games, receiving worldwide recognition and praise,” trumpeted Anthony Crouts, VP of Marketing for Konami Digital Entertainment Inc. “Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection represents [sic] great value for gamers, bringing together three must-have classic titles which pioneered the stealth action genre.” Konami has not offered up a confirmed release date for the collection, but has stated that it will arrive “before the release of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.” Beautifully timed temporary placation, the packaged Metal Gear Solid trio will retail for a mere $29.99 USD and the entire collection has been rated ‘M for Mature’ by the ESRB. © Copyright 2007 by monstersandcritics.com.
