Vehicular combat game 'Red Faction: Battlegrounds' now available

Red Faction: Battlegrounds is now available for download for PS3 and Xbox 360.

THQ announced today that Red Faction: Battlegrounds is now available for purchase on the PlayStation Network for $9.99, and on Xbox LIVE Arcade for 800 Microsoft Points.

Red Faction: Battlegrounds is a multiplayer vehicular combat game with a variety of vehicles, from fast-attack vehicles to heavy tanks to combat walkers--they're all at your disposal, allowing you to demolish anything that stands in your way. Game modes include Survival, Annihilate and Flag Frenzy.

Danny Bilson of THQ comment that the game "is a throwback to top-down, four-player racers of the past, yet with story tie-ins and unlockable weaponry..."

THQ also unveiled exclusive unlockable bonus content playable in Red Faction: Armageddon. Players that reach Rank 20 in Battlegrounds will be rewarded in Red Faction: Armageddon with the Enforcer, an EDF rapid fire smart rifle that uses heat-seeking ammunition to take town enemy targets. Each bullet is embedded with a microchip that helps each fired round to curve and home in on its target.

In addition, players that reach Rank 10 in Battlegrounds will receive 2,000 Salvage Points that can be used to instantly purchase upgrades to Darius Mason’s Nano Forge and weapons arsenal.

Red Faction: Armageddon is scheduled for release on May 31 for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
