Existing screenshots for the sequel suggest that a portion of Resistance 2 will see mankind continuing the fight against the evil Chimera hordes in places such as San Francisco, which is a markedly more glamorous location than Manchester. And now plot threads reveal that the game’s central protagonist -- Nathan -- will also find himself visiting Iceland, of all places.
More specifically, CVG reports that the player will bear witness to Nathan discovering human specimens at a Special Projects Research Administration base, with these humans having mutant DNA infections that enable them to brandish powers of telepathy and healing.
The Chimera ranks will also be bolstered by new invisible ‘Chameleon’ Chimera units, which will be hard -- but not impossible -- for players to locate. Sounding much like the Predator-like Elite units from Bungie’s Halo series, the Chameleons will differ in that they will be completely invisible to the player unless passing across surfaces capable of registering tracks, or being caught in rain or smoke, which will see them emit an identifying silhouette shimmer.
Speaking with the Official PlayStation Magazine, Insomniac Games president Ted Price also hooked a massively juicy worm on Resistance 2’s sizeable rod of temptation by revealing that boss encounters in the game will be “significantly larger than anything we’ve tried in our games.” According to Price, one confrontation in Resistance 2 will pit the player against a creature “several hundred feet tall.” Gulp.
Other elements will include a full co-op campaign for up to eight players, which will include players tasked with working as a proper team in order to accomplish mission objectives. Multiplayer action will also be enhanced with the appearance of the Splitter, a minigun-style piece of death-dealing hardware that’s able to deliver “a terrifying barrage of rounds.”
