The upcoming arrival of SEGA and Secret Level's revamped version of hack-and-slash classic Golden Axe marks yet another retro game from yonder yesteryear getting the modern day overhaul treatment courtesy of powerful processing and a full 3D game world. Credit: SEGA.While it’s certainly a good thing for SEGA to be breathing fresh life into Golden Axe, which first appeared in arcades in 1989, will Golden Axe: Beast Rider in any way resemble its source of inspiration, its gameplay, and its chunky pixel presentation? Given the step up from late ‘80s arcade machines to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360... well, not likely.That being said, a fresh batch of game screens from Beast Rider goes some way to at least painting SEGA’s revamped edition in a positive light, boasting a sexy heroine, vicious-looking creatures, and same rather nasty weaponry to boot. Not a bad start by all accounts.Golden Axe: Beast Rider sees players assuming the role of Tyris Flare, a cleavage-friendly Amazonian warrior thrust into a free-roaming game world where combat takes place on foot and also while mounted on the backs of what appear to be deadly dinosaurs or dragons.With SEGA promising five forms of beastie for players to do battle on, including the nimble and agile and the lumbering and hugely powerful, Golden Axe: Beast Rider and its open game world and variable combat might just arrive as an action-packed battle adventure that draws deserved attention when it screams onto next-gen platforms later in the summer.Until then, check out the following debut screens.
