Following on from earlier news that revealed THQ is canning Destroy All Humans! Big Willy Unleashed on the PlayStation 2, it’s now come to light that the leading third-party videogame publisher is to cast off yet more ballast from its bobbing software ship.

Specifically the California-based company has confirmed in the report for its fiscal third quarter (ending December 31, 2007) that it has cancelled Frontlines: Fuel of War for the PlayStation 3 and also chosen to drop under-performing intellectual properties (IPs) Stuntman and Juiced.
THQ has also outlined that videogame titles such as Ratatouille and Conan have also failed to impress at retail, while the likes of WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2008 and MX vs. ATV: Untamed have performance much better than expected, which has contributed to the company increasing revenue guidance from $490 million USD to $509 million USD.
"In October, we announced certain product quality initiatives, including personnel and structural changes in product development and a more rigorous internal and external product evaluation and feedback process," explained Brian Farrell, president and CEO of THQ. "Consistent with these initiatives, we have taken actions to strengthen our pipeline and position ourselves to compete aggressively with compelling, high quality games."
Furthermore, THQ has also announced the closure of its Concrete Games studio, which was working on an unnamed next-gen title. There is currently no information to gauge what will happen to the unannounced title, although THQ has stated that "a substantial number of the studio’s employees" will be relocated to other THQ satellites.
