BlackSite: Area 51 creative director leaves Midway

Videogames developer and publisher Midway has this week announced that Harvey Smith, the creative director of recent release BlackSite: Area 51, has left the Austin-based company by mutual consent.

It remains to be seen whether Smith’s somewhat overt criticism of the BlackSite project during the Montral International Games Summit in Quebec, Canada, has anything to do with his dismissal. According to GamesIndustry.biz, Smith reportedly described the sci-fi first-person shooter as: "…so f***ed up," which perhaps accurately reflects the critical cold shoulder thus far offered up to the game by the vast majority of review outlets.While neither party has commented further on the mutual decision to part ways, or whether that decision was made before or after Smith’s outburst, the departing creative director did divulge that his feelings are representative of his belief in "personal accountability."Currently, BlackSite: Area 51 has amassed some 24 reviews via online media aggregator Metacritic.com, which have seen it awarded an average review score of 64%.BlackSite: Area 51 is available now on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Games for Windows.Take a look at the following video review from GameTrailers.com in order to discover exactly what awaits you should you wish to brave the horrors – quite literally – of BlackSite.
