From Monsters and Critics.com PC Games News American software giant Microsoft has today broken its usual regime of silence where speculative rumour is concerned by quashing the hopes of PC gamers everywhere who’ve been hoping for the unveiling of Halo Wars on the Games for Windows format. Whispers suggesting that Microsoft and Ensemble were preparing to reveal the real-time strategy title for PC first surfaced earlier this week, with resulting chatter pointing to February’s upcoming Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco as the most likely platform for said announcement. However, Redmond-based Microsoft has now emerged from the shadows of corporate silence to stamp noisily on the glowing embers of unsubstantiated rumour before they burst forth into an unfounded blaze of rampant speculation. "Halo Wars is being developed from the bottom up for the Xbox 360 [as is] its control scheme to ensure that we deliver a groundbreaking console RTS experience," Microsoft has informed gaming website IGN. "Given that, we have no plans to develop Halo Wars for Windows Vista at this time." Microsoft’s statement arrives only a day after it said it didn’t comment on rumour and speculation. Filthy liars. So, dear PC-loving real-time strategy fans, it would appear that Halo Wars is a no-go beyond the Xbox 360… unless, of course, Microsoft is ‘doing a Sony’ and issuing a staunch denial to a thunder-stealing rumour (in Sony’s case it was PS3 price cuts) immediately prior to confirming it at a renowned industry event a few weeks later. Spoon inserted. Stirring commenced. Now, where’s that ‘Metal Gear Solid 4 coming to Xbox 360’ rumour got to? © Copyright 2007 by monstersandcritics.com.
