SEGA celebrates Sonic's 20th anniversary

Sonic the Hedgehog will celebrate his 20th anniversary on June 23, 2011.
SEGA today announced their company mascot, Sonic the Hedgehog, will celebrate his 20th anniversary on June 23, 2011.
Since his debut in 1991 on the SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive console, Sonic the Hedgehog's popularity quickly soared, becoming a gaming icon on par with Super Mario. In the twenty years that Sonic video games have been available, sales have surpassed 70 million units worldwide.
Sonic, having conquered games, ventured into comics, apparel, toys and even his own animated series. To celebrate all these accomplishments, Sega will be celebrating with events around the world, details of which will be released throughout the year.
