THQ has partnered with Guillermo del Toro to create inSANE, an original trilogy of games.

THQ announced today it has entered into a multi-year agreement with Guillermo del Toro, the Oscar-winning director of Pan's Labyrinth and writer-director of the Hellboy series, to create inSANE, an original trilogy of games set to launch in 2013.

Del Toro will serve as external creative director for the games, working closely with THQ's executive team and Volition, the series' developer. THQ and del Toro will also collaborate on potential transmedia projects surrounding the inSANE games.

Danny Bilson of THQ commented, "Guillermo is not only an incredibly gifted writer and film director, but also an avid gamer, and we are excited to bring his talents to our medium. We are confident his unique point of view will create visually stunning adventures, filled with rich and rewarding game play."

Del Toro  added, "With this new series of videogames, I want to take players to a place they have never seen before, where ever single action makes them question their own senses of morality and reality."

THQ will own the intellectual property rights to the inSANE games, and del Toro will hold the rights to any filmed products, which leaves the door wide open for a possible film adaptation.

As of now, THQ has not announced which platforms inSANE will be available for, but considering the game won't launch until 2013, there's a big possibility (though at this point it is mere wishful thinking) that the game will skip the current generation of consoles and arrive instead on PlayStation 4 and the next Xbox.
