The sales figures speak for themselves, and with two model variants, a host of colours, and a formidable grasp on the number one spot in the hardware popularity chart, the Nintendo DS doesn’t really need extra polish applying to its image or appeal.

That being said, there always seems to be room for a little more aesthetic variety to quell the needs of prospective consumers, hence Nintendo’s unveiling of the new Cobalt and Black DS Lite.
Strangely described by Nintendo as "like a black T-shirt with a splash of color," the new Cobalt and Black DS is being integrated into the already colourful DS wardrobe as a real attention grabber that should look good "toted in your school backpack, pulled from your purse, or riding with you on a family trip."
Press blurbage to one side, the new DS model arrives offering nothing more than a new stylish colour scheme, and it really isn’t anything to get overly excited about – unless you’ve always wanted a DS but were holding out for a two-tone model that’s 60 percent black and 40 percent blue. If that’s the case, then you should probably commence bouncing off the walls with consumer glee at this juncture.
The new Cobalt and Black model represents the seventh colour version to hit the DS range, joining the likes of Polar White, Coral Pink, Onyx, Crimson and Black, and limited edition Gold and Metallic Rose.
To reiterate the outstanding performance of the Nintendo DS (which is more likely to be based on innovation and creativity rather than colouring), the DS has sold more than 17.6 million units in the United States alone since it launched in November of 2004. The DS also ended 2007 as the region’s best-selling console, racking up over 8.5 million unit sales. The new Cobalt and Black DS Lite will hit retailers from Feb 10.
