The diminutive Nintendo DS might not be carrying the necessary muscle to cope with performance demands laid down by Ubisoft’s ambitious Assassin’s Creed, but fans of the little clamshell wonder machine are still to receive their own little dose of dual-screen assassination.

Ubisoft has today pulled the covers off Assassin’s Creed: Altair’s Chronicles, which will arrive at retail next month and be an exclusive narrative prequel hosted only on the DS platform.
Altair’s Chronicles will arrive as a direct prequel to Assassin’s Creed and will give players the opportunity to uncover more background history regarding the game’s stealthy memory-created hero Altair.
The chronicles of Altair will also include "a fully realized 3D world," which will enable players to "battle through four cities of the Crusade’s Middle East," while utilising all the daredevil acrobatic moves and devastating attacks that Altair made his own in the home console original.
"The success of Assassin’s Creed worldwide has been incredible and we’re excited to delve deeper into the story and bring it to the Nintendo DS," trumpeted John Parkes, EMEA Marketing Director at Ubisoft. "Assassin’s Creed Altair’s Chronicles will be a title that resonates with those who played the console version as well as those who have yet to discover the secrets of Assassin’s Creed."
While scant little is known about the ins and outs of Altair’s Chronicles - from aesthetics to gameplay - Assassin’s Creed fans armed with a DS can still look forward to some form of extended assassination excitement, while those who missed out on the original can finally get themselves a slice of the action.
More as we get it.
