3D animated concept clip of new Nintendo DS Lite

Rumours have been circulating for a while that Nintendo might be in the process of developing yet another redesign of its market leading touch-screen DS handheld console. Aussie researcher and developer's DS Lite 2 concept comes to life. Credit: Nintendo.

Credit: Nintendo.The DS platform, which launched in late 2004, currently contains the original clamshell design (which is no longer manufactured but still available) and the sleeker, shrunken, and enhanced DS Lite.In November of this year, US analyst Evan Wilson of Pacific Crest Securities claimed that Nintendo already had a redesigned DS model waiting in the industry wings for sales of DS hardware to tail off. According to Wilson, the new DS would arrive as physically thinner than the existing DS Lite thanks to it being devoid of a GBA port, and it would also offer onboard memory storage and larger screen sizes.However, despite Wilson citing ‘unnamed sources’ in his claims, Nintendo subsequently rubbished the idea of a new DS by labelling the rumours as nothing but "utter speculation." It remains to be seen what happens when DS sales do start to fade, but at the moment sales remain huge, with the DS having sold some 53 million units since launch, with 13 million of those coming prior to the end of Q3, 2007.However, whatever may or may not happen with the evolution of the DS, one imaginative enthusiast has taken it upon himself to create an animated mock-up of what the new DS might look like. The 3D animated model is based on a concept by Nick Lowe, and it’s certainly getting favourable feedback from gamers, with plenty of positive comments meeting the clip’s posting on GameTrailers.com.Some comments include the likes of:"Wow, submit it to Nintendo, because I want it. wow thats amazing! My first DS is almost broken and I was about to get a new crimson black ds lite but, thats just amzing I would totally buy that! That would make them some serious money!

I'd definitely go for it, but I have a feeling that this is faked. It's not that it's a bad looking handheld, it's that one of the major problems people had with the original DS was with the placement of the power button, which has been known to be pushed accidentally to be turned off. It's somewhat of a bad design choice to resurface a problem that was originally fixed back then. The concept is still fantastic though, especially if they can actually find a way to move said Power button.

One problem I see is that the top screen looks fragile. I can imagine those things breaking off.

this concept is pretty cool but has mistake.when it is closed all the buttons show. There is a possibility that the buttons could break up or damaged.
