Francis Ford Coppola expecting a grand-daughter

Director Francis Ford Coppola is gaining a grand-daughter if the reports are true.  People is reporting Sofia Coppola is carrying a daughter.

“I’m so excited to have a little girl,” the 7 months pregnant Marie Antoinette director, 35, tells USA Today.

The baby’s father, Thomas Mars, the singer for the French band Phoenix and Sofia met when he recorded a song for her 1999 movie, The Virgin Suicides.

No word on the baby’s name just yet: “We’re going to wait and see,” she says. “When you’re writing, you pick names for characters, but it’s harder in real life.”

Sofia is a known fashionista, and has fought the urge to go shopping mad for her soon to be child: “I haven’t gone crazy, but I feel like I’m on the verge,” she says. “All those little dresses. I tried to be open about both sexes, but it’s so fun to have little girl stuff.”

Coppola won a screenwriting Oscar for 2003’s Lost in Translation.  She comes from Hollywood royalty as the daughter of Godfather director Francis Ford Coppola.
