Anchor Bay has packaged all three of the
‘Scanners’ movies together in a handsome slipcase and at just under £20 this is a bargain indeed.
Sadly it is in this type of scenario that you can see just how far the sequels fell from the tree. 1981’s ‘Scanners’ was a marvellous sci-fi horror tale making a social comment along the way against the madcap mayhem for parts 2 and 3 where this is thrown away like dust in the wind. 2 and 3 are more action orientated exploitation flicks and are popcorn fodder at best. Actually with hindsight looking back at ‘Scanners’ , before the time of the worldwide web and before the term hacker was created, it seems that this was also somewhat prophetic.

Here, as a boxed set, you can look upon those sequels as some kind of unwelcome offspring or like an expanded extra of how not to make a sequel. There's a great 8 page booklet with this set, giving a few snippets of information and a mindblowing centerpiece. In short this is a bargain price for this set, and it will look great on any DVD shelf.
And right now they are touting a remake being made !
'Scanners Trilogy Boxed Set' is available via
AmazonUK and as of yet has no US release date, each title is also available seperately.
