I have read the Earth Sea series books and the movie made some serious diversions from the story. The movie not anly pales in comparison to the books, but tells a goofy tale that doesn't seem to make sense. I highly recomend the books, even if one is not a fantasy lover.

I saw the first half of the film on TV and thought that it was very weak and lacking in drama compared to the books which I had read as a child and re-read a year or two ago. It's always dificult to make a good film from a good book but in this case the film-makers combine the plot from the three books of the trilogy only to form a convoluted and incoherent narrative where the characters fail to engage with the audience. I'd agree with all the other comments made in the review above.
