True Blood is the sexy, scary, wildly entertaining drama series from Oscar®- and Emmy®-winning Alan Ball (HBO’s Six Feet Under), and based on the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris. Mixing romance, suspense, mystery and humor, True Blood tells the continuing tale of Sookie (Anna Paquin, Golden Globe-winner for this role), a human waitress with telepathic gifts – and a so-far irresistible attraction to 174-year-old vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer). ...more
When we last left Sookie Stackhouse she had vanished, but now she’s back for more supernatural fun in Bon Temps, Louisiana.
Capsule plot description may contain slight spoilers, you’ve been warned. Another supernatural force has come to light in Bon Temps - witchcraft - and life for its residents will never be the same. Sookie (Anna Paquin) finds herself entangled in a love triangle - torn between a vengeful Bill (Stephen Moyer), the new Vampire King of Mississippi, and Eric (Alexander Skarsgard), who's not the former Viking he once was.
Led by a charismatic witch named Marnie (Fiona Shaw), who threatens to let no one living or dead stand in her way, a powerful coven tempts Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis), Tara (Rutina Wesley), and Jesus (Kevin Alejandro) with otherworldly powers.
Jessica (Deborah Ann Wohl) tries to adjust to a domestic life, while Jason (Ryan Kwanten) finds himself alone in were-panther territory. Arlene (Carrie Preston) and Terry (Todd Lowe) come to terms with their highly unusual baby, and Alcide (Joe Manganiello) finds himself caught in the clutches of an old flame.
There could possibly be some spoilers here too. A moment in fairy land turns into a year in Louisiana and our heroine finds that much has changed while she has been away. Once Sookie returns old feelings start to resurface, even though parties have moved on. So fans will have to figure out where things are going to go as well as catching up with what has happened to their favorite characters.
There are also some great moments for characters that usually provide support instead of being our main players. One new addition is the witches and their leader.
Fiona Shaw does a fantastic job in the role. It allows her to show some duality in the villainess role since there are plot points that deal with possession. Something old, something new, and what boils down to another compelling season from True Blood. You’re also left anxiously awaiting the next season.
True Blood is presented in a 1080p transfer (1.78:1).
