In Sony Pictures Animation s OPEN SEASON 3 Boog Elliot and their forest friends return with an all new adventure this time in a Big Top Circus! The funny furry and feathered creatures from the forest are reunited in a tale of loyalty, friendship and making choices. This direct-to-DVD movie will entertain children without a fear of tears or unbearable emotional situations to cause troubled thoughts after the film is over.
There are gentle laughs, and an easily followed storyline, some slapstick moments, a small bit of rude language and a reinforcement of what friendship and caring really mean.
Not all movies are great or of earth shattering importance. Sometimes simply being entertaining is enough; a film that tells a story without using forced emotional upsets can be a very good thing. As adults we go to see films purely for entertainment, or to forget our worries for just a little while, and it seems we should afford our children the same opportunity.
As it is we have become such snobs about elements of our children’s entertainment, demanding all the bells and whistles in animation and perfection in production.
And of course the story must have relevance in the child’s life, touching on some vitally important lesson or skill or we deem it not worthy of watching. We have forgotten that simplicity might be the very thing the kids need and really want. Entertainment on their level, laughter for things that they find funny, and a story that won’t keep them up at night worrying is something they can enjoy.
Open Season 3 is cute and colorful and has great music. It will be a lot funnier to an eight year old than to his parents, but after all it is HIS movie. The talking animals will capture the children’s interest, and they will hear and understand that Boog the bear is disappointed because none of his friends can go with him on a “guy trip.”
He tries to go on his own and comes to the conclusion that he is misunderstood and needs to find a place where there are others (bears) like himself so he can live happily. He has misadventure with a raid on a convenience store and overindulges in chocolate and wanders into a circus.
A bear there, Doug, is just as anxious to leave the company of bears to find a place where he can be ruler of the forest, and so the two switch places. Boog makes the switch in good faith, Doug is out for his own gain. Boog tries to fit in especially as he has fallen for Ursa another bear in the circus.
What Boog doesn’t realize is that his friends may not be bears, but they really care about him. When they discover he is in the circus, they set out to rescue him and bring him home.
Open Season 3 Blu Ray DVD Combo pack offers two versions of the film. The Blu Ray Disc has special features that include a rabbit war game where the viewer tosses virtual bunnies at the screen during the film.
There is also Boog’s Cannon Blast game, and a Runaway RV Game plus a progression reel that shows the development of a scene from story board to finished animation. This is one for the children, the message of friendship is exhibited and there is a lot of silliness that the young ones will love.
