Sex and the City 2 – Blu-ray Review
By June L. Nov 9, 2010, 15:52 GMT

The fun, the fashion, the friendship: Sex and the City 2 brings it all back and more as Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Samantha (Kim Cattrall), Charlotte (Kristin Davis) and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) come together to take another bite out of The Big Apple – and beyond – in a hilarious sequel. What happens after you say “I do?” Life is everything the ladies ever wished it would be, but it ...more
Sex and the City 2 is a fable for grown up girls who have through age and experience gathered some serious relationship knowledge. That doesn’t mean that this is not a funny movie, it has absolutely hysterical moments that are so funny they hurt.
All things change, and this installment of the saga reflects the maturing of the girls in both life and attitudes, and hits the problems of midlife squarely on the head. It is not the same Sex and the City as the television show or the first movie, but shows a healthy move forward in the character’s lives allowing them to grow into the next phase of development.
It is two years since Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) married “Big” (Chris Noth) and they are still working on the definition of their marriage and who they are within it. Charlotte (Kristin Davis) with the family of her dreams is dealing with motherhood issues, feeling less than ecstatic as she tries to be and do everything for her family and still maintain unflappable good will.

Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) has successfully passed through some relationship and motherhood trials, and is now trying to rediscover herself as a career woman, and Samantha (Kim Cattrall) ……is going through menopause and fighting it every step of the way.
Four different women, at four different points in their lives, and yet as a whole their condition could be a paradigm for middle age/not so new marriage and maturing relationship issues. Into this emotional minefield comes a trip courtesy of Samantha to Abu Dhabi. The four friends get away from it all to a place where they will be the guests of a Sheik who owns a luxury hotel and wants Samantha to work some PR magic.
Far away from family and issues, each woman is able to see her way through the problems that back home were so monumental. That is not making light of these conundrums, but distance and “away” time seems to have a clarifying effect. There is a perfectly marvelous scene between Charlotte and Miranda as Miranda gets her to talk about feeling like she isn’t the perfect mother.
As the girls used to give each other dating and relationship advice, their friendship has matured to a point where they can encourage and uplift each other as mothers, wives and most importantly as adult women. Friendship may be the best relationship of all.
Sex and the City 2 combo pack has a disc with Blu-Ray and a disc with DVD and digital copy available. The feature is 146 minutes long and rated R, for a very grown up movie. A very nice group of specials accompany the combo pack. There is “Revisiting the 80’s” which takes a look at the plot construction showing how the girls met.
This costuming and hair design is a must see for anyone who lived through that time period. “A Conversation with Sarah Jessica Parker and Director Michael Patrick King” reveals some of the story decisions and character development for this installment of the saga.
“The Men of Sex and The City” takes a look at the males whose role is important, but sometimes secondary to the girl’s frienships. There is a pop-quiz to test your knowledge of the relationships.
“Styling Sex and the City 2” looks at glamour and fashion, always such an important part of the series and movies. The new movie is no exception, with all the romance of the desert and the color and energy of exotic locations, the wardrobes are lush and incredible. “Marry Me Liza” allows viewers to visit the set of the Wild Wedding with superstar Liza Minelli, a commentary with Director Michael Patrick King, and “Sex and the city 2 Soundtrack: In the recording studios with Alicia Keyes. Good fun.
