The second season of The Mentalist is on DVD and fans will appreciate the fine treatment the show has received in this set.
Not only will they be able to follow Patrick Jane’s (Simon Baker) work as consultant for the California Bureau of Investigation, but there are nice extras to enhance the storylines and the characters.
Patrick Jane, former psychic, has turned his trade secrets for gathering clues to use as a consultant for investigations. Always thinking outside the box, he isn’t one to follow guidelines or rules, but his unorthodox methods are successful.
Working with Senior Agent Teresa Lisbon (Robin Tunney) and her team Wayne Rigby (Owain Yeoman), Kimball Cho (Tim Kang) and Grace Van Pelt (Amanda Righetti) Jane usually finds the breakthrough that leads to the solution of the ever-clever red-themed crimes.
In addition to the investigations, this season expands the back stories of the characters, filling in details that make them more real to the viewer. In stories ranging from the residue of childhood issues to an avidly anticipated romance the action and adventures ramp up the excitement and entertainment.
The humor is strong in this season, in spite of the grim cases to be solved, and the chemistry among the cast members is part of viewer’s high level of interest. The detective work is intriguing, and it is fun to try and spot the clues that Jane catches.
How will they be able to help an amnesiac find out who she is, and why she is covered in blood, or solve the case involving a clown murdering a math genius? Whatever the case Jane will use his skills to seek the truth.
The Mentalist: The Complete Second Season is presented on five discs. Included in the case is a twelve page booklet with program notes and synopsis for each episode. The booklet is full color and illustrated with stills from the Season.
The special features include “Lost Evidence” unaired scenes for five major episodes during the season. “Mentalism: A Subliminal Art” gives viewers a look at the techniques of a real-life “Mentalist” Luke Jermay as he works with cast and series creators in preparation for the stories.
“The Art of the Mentalist with Chris Long” explores the use of mentalism in the series as Executive Producer Chris Long and mentalist Luke Jermay analyze the opening episode of the season, “Redemption.”
Fans will want to own this season with its specials of a show that steps outside the boundaries of the usual crime investigation series.
