By Dana Rae Oct 12, 2010, 16:10 GMT

When things get rough on Wisteria Lane, the Housewives band together like never before. Relive the passion, the laughter, and the mystery of television\'s celebrated dramatic comedy with The Complete Sixth Season of "Desperate Housewives." The neighborhood is jolted with the arrival of Angie Bolen (Drea de Matteo) and her family, and it soon becomes clear that they are hiding something. But what is their secret, and what are their ...more
ABC’s hit comedic drama, Desperate Housewives, returns for its sixth season on DVD and keeps all of the camp, suspense, and fun intact with this go-around. Spoiler warnings ahead.
The five neighbors of Wisteria Lane unite on that charming cul-de-sac for more outrageous moments. This season sees Lynette Scavo (Felicity Huffman, my fav of the group) pregnant with twins (again). She works with Carlos Solis (Ricardo Chavira) and there is a funny episode where she doesn’t want to tell him (or anyone else) that she is pregnant.
Carlos, in the dark about the pregnancy, assumes Lynette got a boob job, and Lynette starts showing off the girls to keep him in the dark. She is scared she will lose her job if he discovers the truth.
Bree Hodge (Marcia Cross) is as warmly reptilian as ever, and finds herself in trouble with her catering/cake business as her partner, Katherine (Dana Delaney) goes a bit nutty and ends up in needing a little extra help in a mental home.
Bree also has to deal with guilt for putting her husband Orson (Kyle MacLachlan) in a wheelchair. She must contend with Orson being Orson as he refuses to bathe or make her life bearable or lessen her guilt. She finally takes him outside and hoses him down with dish soap and a water hose. Orson then decides he wants to end it all and commit suicide.
Susan deals with her job as a teacher and finding out that MJ might not be as smart as they were led to believe (all parents of school-aged children will get a kick out of these episodes). She and Mike (James Denton) deal with financial trouble as well.
The others come to her aid and prove what good neighbors are (actually some really great neighbors that will go the extra, extra mile for you) as they simultaneously say “Checkbooks!” and offer to bail Susan out of her money troubles.
Gabrielle Solis (Eva Longoria Parker) deals with other neighbors: the nosy, overbearing kind that question her mothering skills, and the fun, gay kind. She wants her “old” life back before she had children and the gay neighbors a few doors down make really good cocktails and throw great parties.
Then she finds out what they really want is a family and are trying to adopt. She goes home and decides family is probably best.
Meanwhile, another neighbor emerges and plays a vital role in this season. Angie Bowen (Drea de Matteo) moves into Mary Alice’s former house and as the season unfolds, the mystery of who she and her son are and why they are there unfolds, too.
When Bree tries to cheat on Orson, Angie covers for her. But Angie is hiding secrets that come a-haunting and bring her psycho ex to Wisteria Lane. A hostage situation ensues in which Angie tries to get a message to Gabby is a pan of lasagna.
Special features include a hilarious blooper reel and a gag reel with Miss Piggy trying to get a job on the show.
Desperate Houses mixes comedy-camp with drama and is a lot of fun. The sixth season does not seem tired or old even though it seems the show borrows and rehashes plots (i.e. have all seen the crazy ex tracking the wife and kid down). It is just a lot of fun and I enjoyed watching it. The cast seems to be having fun as well.
