Castle fans sit up and take notice!  The second season is out on DVD in a set that is certain to be a hit!

We can share the fun and excitement again as Beckett and her team solve cases ably assisted by Castle.  This season is a keeper!

Rick Castle (Nathan Fillion) acclaimed author of crime fiction is currently shadowing Detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) as she searches for clues to solve some of New York’s weirdest murders.

He is gathering information for his best-selling new novel series starring Detective Nikki Heat, whom he claims is loosely based on Detective Beckett.  Of course there is powerful chemistry between Castle and Beckett, but somehow their timing is always slightly off, and then they have to work their way through macho new guys and beautiful lost loves who seem to turn up just as things are getting interesting.

This season of Castle had so many great moments, both on the cases and off.  We love Nathan Fillion’s Halloween costume as a familiar “Space Cowboy,” his creative use of duct tape to research an escape, bonding with Esposito and Ryan over male grooming products, vying for Beckett’s attention when the new guy appears, fans of the show have their favorite bits and lines.

This show is not afraid to give moments to background characters and let some of the guest stars have wonderful lines.  On a personal note one of my favorite actresses Deborah Strang had a neat bit in the episode “A Rose for Everafter,” as one of the wedding guests.

She gives her information to Detective Ryan and heads for the bar.  She is one of those faces we love to see showing up in ensemble shows as she always adds interest to a scene with her characters.  In Season Two we also get closer to Castle and Beckett, learning more about their lives and who they really are as people, not just partners.

Esposito (Jon Huertas) and Ryan (Seamus Dever) are given larger roles and Lanie Parish (Tamala Jones) is always a joy to watch.  We all feel like we know these people, Marthat (Susan Sullivan) Castle’s Mother and Alexis (Molly Quinn) his daughter give us insight into Castle’s home life rounding out humor and drama.

Castle: The Complete Second Season is presented in a five disc set housed in a slipcased keeper box.  It is illustrated with stills from the episodes and has listings for what is on each disc.

If by some chance you don’t know Castle, there is a “Castle Starter Kit” on disc one that will explain the basics and catch you up on the story so far.  This is not a substitute for Season One, but a good place to get the basics.

Including the 24 episodes of Season Two there are some great specials.  On Set with Seamus and Jon reveals secrets of the Castle set, On Location with Nathan takes viewers into the production world where they are introduced to members of the crew and shown some of the tricks behind the filming, Manhattan’s Most Unusual Murders gives viewers insight into how the production team sets up the murders with careful research, clever props, and intense special effects.

In this feature there are stories from cast, crew, and producers to enhance the experience.  There are deleted scenes, and bloopers and outtakes.

This is a treasure for all Castle fans.
