The electrifying series starring Robert Carlyle returns, presenting a whole new set of challenges for the civilians and military personnel stranded in deep space aboard an aging spaceship. As Dr. Rush (Carlyle) races against time to locate a tracking devise hidden somewhere on the Destiny, he also begins to suspect that a mole for the Alliance has infiltrated the group. Confronting the constant demands of their ship, the crew must ...more
The second half of the first season of the new Stargate Universe SG-U is available for fans and collectors.
My copy arrived with a folded box that converts into a case to house 1.0 and 1.5 to make the Complete First Season.
The Resident Scientist and I are both Stargate fans and we have enjoyed all the stories from the movie forward.
We look forward to each incarnation and we are never disappointed by the productions.
SGU is one of our favorite shows, and proves yet again that the Stargate franchise has not fallen prey to the series killing monsters of re-hash or limited story guidelines. It is moving forward into new territory and delivering solid and entertaining episodes.
For those who have not seen the series, now is the time to be introduced to Destiny and its passengers.
Part survival epic, part journey of exploration, the humans on-board the Destiny are not there by choice. They were fleeing from attack on a planet where the Icarus Project was being conducted, so there are military personnel, scientists and civilians who instead of stepping through the Stargate to Earth, find themselves on a strange spaceship plowing through the Universe.
In Part 1.0 there was the initial shock and horror of being stranded, and jockeying for positions of leadership….should it be military or scientific?
The first half of Season 1 ended with the military leader Colonel Young (Lou Ferreira) stranding scientist Dr. Rush (Robert Carlyle) on an alien planet. In 1.5 Rush is returned to the ship when it is discovered that he has been taken prisoner by the same aliens that capture Chloe (Elyse Levesque) and a truce of sorts develops as they realize the common enemy.
In 1.5 more discoveries are made about the mission and workings of the ship Destiny, strange planets are visited and as always the human emotions are explored. Regular cast members Ming-Na, as Camille Wray, Alaina Huffman as T.J., David Blue as Eli Wallace, Jamil Walker Smith as Greer, and Brian J. Smith as Matthew Scott, join Lou Diamond Phillips as Telford, and guest appearances by Star Gate favorites to tell this new adventure.
Stargate Universe SG-U: 1.5 is presented on three discs containing the episodes and a variety of specials. There are commentaries for all the episodes, and Kino video diaries. There are Chatting with the Cast featurettes where cast and producers and writers talk about various elements of the series, from concept to finished product.
Designing a New Race, gives a look behind the scenes at the creation of the new aliens that are besieging Destiny. Using all technological advances available in their representation, audiences are presented with a scary new adversary. The tanks play a role at the beginning of this collection, and actress Elyse Levesque demonstrates how she prepared for shooting these sequences.
This is a great set for fans, and for those who want to become more familiar with the series.
