Chuck: The Complete Second Season – DVD Review
By Jeff Swindoll Jan 8, 2010, 15:52 GMT

This season, Chuck is in luck. Intersect II is ready for espionage service. And that means the old Intersect (Chuck) can go back to his old life. But if Chuck goes, he\'s gone: Casey has orders to off him. In the series called "TV\'s funniest comedy" by EW.com, Chuck survives to unravel mysteries of the past, become a hero in the present, and - in a stunner of a season ...more
Chuck sticks around for a second season and his spy activities continue and he even goes 3-D. Season two builds upon the fun of season one and offers some great shows along the way.
Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi) works as a member of the Nerd Herd at the Buy More store (read: Geek Squad at Best Buy) with his best friend, Morgan Grimes (Joshua Gomez). Chuck’s sister Ellie (Sarah Lancaster) is trying to find Chuck a girlfriend. One night Chuck gets an email from his old college roommate Bryce Larkin (Matthew Bomer).

The email contains a long series of images. What Chuck doesn’t know is that the images have imbedded a top secret government database subliminally into his mind.
Since Chuck’s brain contains the only copy of the database, the government sends in Agent Lisa Walker (Yvonne Strahovski) and Major John Casey (Adam Baldwin) undercover. Lisa poses as Sarah Chuck’s new girlfriend, lucky bastard, and John gets a job at Buy More.
So was the short first season and season two finds that the government is planning a new Intersect, the database in Chuck’s brain, which would lead to Chuck’s obsolescence (and potential elimination!). There are also the further adventures of Captain Awesome, aka Ellie’s husband Devon (Ryan McPartlin), learning seduction from legendary debonair spy Roan Montgomery (John Larroquette), the return of ex-girlfriend Jill (Jordana Brewster), and an adventure into the third dimension.
Chuck’s second season is even better than the abbreviated first and it’s all thanks to the characters of the show and the great situations that it offers. The show is expertly cast and each character grows or has some great moments this time around. Chuck has excellent acting all around and a show that fosters addiction.
Chuck is presented in anamorphic widescreen (1.78:1) and is enhanced for 16x9 televisions.
Special features include over 30 minutes of deleted scenes that are spread out over the six disc set. The 20 minute “Truth, Spies, and Regular Guys” covers what happens in season two (so beware spoilers). The 18 minute “Dudes in Distress” looks at the stunt work and action scenes done in this season. The 3 minute “A Real-Life Captain Awesome tips for being Awesome” has the Captain offering tips on various topics.
The 2 minute “John Casey Presents: So You Want to Be a Deadly Spy?” has the agent giving tips as well. Next are 10 minutes of webisodes that are training videos for Buy More employees and an 8 minute gag reel. The 3-D episode is presented in both flat and 3-D presentations and you get a pair of glasses to watch it.

Chuck is a great show and only gets greater as the season is expanded and the show breathes more. It benefits from some fine casting and guest stars (Gary Cole, Chevy Chase, Scott Bakula, to name a few). Chuck is one hapless spy who you’ll look forward to seeing his adventures every episode.
