G-Force – Blu-ray Review
By Dana Rae Jan 4, 2010, 15:39 GMT

Buckle up for thrilling edge-of-your-seat action and laugh-out-loud fun in Disney’s family comedy adventure G-Force. Just as the G-Force — an elite team of highly trained guinea pigs — is about to save the world, the F.B.I. shuts the secret unit down. But these next-generation action heroes — Darwin, loyal team leader; Blaster, weapons expert with attitude to spare; Juarez, drop-dead gorgeous martial arts diva; and tag-along Hurley — won’t ...more
If James Bond were a Guinea Pig…wait, stop that thought. Yes, we have super-spy, talking Guinea Pigs intent on saving the world, and yes, they are the good guys. And they are on Blu-ray now, so that you have to view them in all their furry high definition glory.
This a movie made for kids. It has kid-fun written all over it. Given that live animals that are made to talk for movies annoy me, I am probably not the person to write this review. So bear with me if you are between the ages of 15 and 94, this movie probably wouldn’t interest you, unless, of course you are the parent of said kids that like the movie.

I am said parent of kids that liked this movie. Well, my ten-year old just said he ‘kinda of liked’ it. How is that for a review? Can I stop there?
No? Ok, there are some weighty stars that lent their voices to this movie: Jon Favreau voices Hurley, Nicolas Cage voices Speckles the Mole, Penelope Cruz is the tough talking Juarez, Steve Buscemi voices Bucky, Tracy Morgan voices Blaster, to name a few.
The team consists of Darwin (voiced by Sam Rockwell) who is the team leader, Blaster who is the weapons expert, Juarez who is the marital arts expert with an attitude (no princess tiara for her), and Hurley, who happens to tag along on the mission to save the world.
To save the day, the Guinea Pigs have to stop a billionaire who is intent on taking over the world. They arrive at the billionaire’s mansion to hear his speech about his electronics line communicating with one another, a revolutionary achievement in the world of coffee pots, toasters, and blenders.
However, the appliances start coming to life and the plot to take over the world unfolds. The scenes where the toasters and other electronics start walking and turning into evil robots were my sons’ favorite parts of the movie.

There is some violence, and but it involves the appliances turning into evil robots. For example, in one scene of the movie, a coffee machine turns into an evil robot and shoots coffee beans at two guinea pigs and turns the coffee grinder function into a spinning blade that crashes through a storefront window, which almost hits three humans.
This coffee-grinder-turned-evil robot also shoots laser beams at the two guinea pigs as it chases one guinea pig into oncoming traffic, but then it is crushed by a car while the guinea pig stands out of the way.
The bad guy turns out to not be who the Guinea Pigs think he is, but you will have to watch this movie for that information. No spoilers here!
This movie is for the entertainment of children, and the special effects deliver. Exclusive to Blu-ray includes a Cine-Explore with Darwin, Blaster, and their creator, a Bruckheimer Animated: A Look Back at His CG Work, and Access Granted: Inside the Animation Lab. Disc 1 also includes a G-Force Bloopers and Flubs, deleted scenes, music videos “Jump” and “Ready to Rock”, Blaster’s High Tech Boot Camp, and a behind the movie inspiration called G-Force Mastermind.
Disc 2 includes the DVD of the film, and parents will want that, as the Disney Blu-ray+DVD is a bonus for parents who have both Blu-ray and DVD players. Disc 3 is the DisneyFile Digital Copy for on-the-go viewers.

Made for children, this Disney film with talking Guinea Pigs is sure to please its intended target audience. The G-Force is filled with stereotypical characters that children are sure to identify with and action and adventure sequences meant to entertain. 3 stars for entertainment value for the kiddos.
