Ultimate Cars Gift Pack – Blu-ray Review
By Dana Rae Nov 10, 2009, 12:50 GMT

Disney/PIXAR\'s CARS, the high-octane adventure comedy from the creators of TOY STORY, THE INCREDIBLES and FINDING NEMO, now looks and sounds better than ever in this Blu-ray disc created from the original source file. Hotshot race car Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) is living life in the fast lane - until he hits a detour and gets stranded in Radiator Springs, a forgotten town on Route 66. There he meets Sally, ...more
Pixar/Disney’s 2006 animated movie Cars comes to Blu-ray in an Ultimate Cars Gift Pack. Great for fans of Mater and Lightening McQueen and all of the rest of the gang of Radiator Spring, this is a must-have!
The set includes two cars, favorite characters McQueen and Mater, all jazzied up in custom Ransburg paint. The back of the box set gives a blurb as to the reasons for the new paint job: McQueen and Sally are going on a date so he scoots on over to Ramone’s body shop and comes out a cool lemony silver yellow.

Mater has new paint because apparently he always wanted to be a fire engine and he has been telling tall tales about putting out a fire at the Match and Gasoline factory. So Mater is “dressed up” as a fire engine, complete with ‘Rescue Squad Mater’ printed on his doors.
The 2-Disc Combo Pack includes both Blu-ray and DVD with exclusive Blu-ray bonuses: A Cine-Explore with behind the scenes information, a Carfinder game where you can discover 100s of ‘Car-acters”, a deleted scene Traffic School, and the Mater and the Ghostlight Short (which was Paul Newman’s last gig), available now in high def.
The DVD comes with the original DVD bonuses: The Ghostlight Short, One Man Band Short, a featurette on the inspiration for Cars, and deleted scenes.
Most are familiar with the film’s plot. At its heart, the film is about friendship. Lightening McQueen is on his way to the big race along Route 66 and ends up staying in the town of Radiator Springs. He meets some quirky characters of the vehicular kind, namely Mater. Mater is a broken down tow truck with a big heart and all he wants is a friend.
All Lightening wants to do is to get out of Radiator Springs, but he has to stay to fix the road he messed up. Mater takes him under this wing and the two have some fun like tractor tipping.
Top heavy with a spectacular cast of voice talents that include Paul Newmen (who voiced the sage Doc Hudson in one of his last performances), Owen Wilson (Lightening McQueen), Bonnie Hunt (Sally), Larry the Cable Guy (Mater), Cheech Marin (Ramone), George Carlin (Fillmore), Michael Keaton (Chick Hicks), Tony Shalhoub (Luigi), this film boasts the talents of two greats that have passed on (Newman and Carlin).

It is a great tribute to them to own this collector’s edition, in my humble opinion. For any fan of the movie, adult or kid, it is a great re-visit. If you haven’t visited Radiator Springs before, this is the set to pick up and enjoy.
The Ultimate Cars Gift Pack is a highly recommended purchase for fans of the film.
