Bones is a show that keeps getting better and better. Good to begin with, it has consistently and intriguingly entertained audiences with mysteries solved by appealing characters who seem to live other than just in weekly episodes.
Based on the novels of real-life forensic anthropologist Kathy Reichs, fans will not want to miss adding this DVD set to their collections.
If you are already a fan of the show, then you know that Season Four of Bones had a great number of stellar moments. First of all the idea of having multiple interns, a new one each episode was nothing short of brilliant. The action and interactions with the various “personalities” made for fun and interest throughout the season.
Talk with any Bones fan, and you will most likely end up in a discussion about which “trainee” is going to “win” the permanent position…..if any of them are completely up to the task!
Double Trouble in the Panhandle had Booth (David Boreanaz) and Brennan (Emily Deschanel) joining the circus as a knife throwing act, The Doctor in the Den is resolved and Cam (Tamara Taylor) becomes a mother…instantly. Perhaps one of the funniest episodes seen in a long time on a “dramatic” series is “The Double Death of the Dearly Departed,” - which showcased all the characters in the series in unforgettable moments.
There is even a dream sequence episode where the lab becomes a nightclub, and the cast is again called upon to play roles as if they are their characters playing these roles….did I mention that these are incredibly talented actors and actresses? I am not a fan of grotesque special effects in the form of brutally murdered corpses, but because of the excellence of this show, I will accept them as part of the package.
They are usually at the beginning of the episode, and then mercifully reduced to just bones for the majority of the investigation. If you have not watched Bones, you are missing one of the best shows on television.
With excellent writing from gifted storytellers, and superb acting from a cast that obviously enjoy what they are doing, audiences are provided a high level of entertainment not often seen on television.
Bones Season Four: The Body Bag Edition is presented on six discs housed in a single case. There are 22 of the Season Four episodes, as the orginal first four were included as a bonus feature in the Season Three set.
There are some very nice specials with this set beginning with extended episodes for three of the stories, “The Perfect Pieces in the Purple Pond, “The Doctor In the Den” and “The Girl in the Mask.”
There are also deleted scenes from the series, and a very funny gag reel. “Androgyny: Playing Haru Tanaka” is a featurette about a mysterious Japanese scientist that visits the Lab to help with one of the cases, and there is a special featurette about the many trainees called “Squints in Training.”
This is a welcome addition to a Bones collection, or a great place to start if you are not already a fan.
