What can be better than one Disney Channel show? Why three of them crossing over and appearing in one 90 minute block. Well, if you’re into them it’s nirvana and if you’re not it might be akin to torture.
If you can’t guess from the title the three shows that get mixed around are Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place, and the Suite Life on Deck.
A quick rundown: Hannah Montana is about a pop star (Miley Cyrus) who has an hidden identity as a normal high schooler, Wizards of Waverly Place is about a family of wizards who own a sandwich shop and have to keep their magic under wraps, and Suite Life on Deck has the main character twins of the Suite Life of Zack and Cody (Sprouse) attending school on a academic cruise ship.
The Wizards of Waverly Place episode has Justin (David Henrie) winning an essay contest that allows him, his sister Alex (Selena Gomez), and brother Max (Jake T. Austin) to go on a cruise on the S.S. Tipton, the aforementioned academic cruise ship. They also bring along Alex’s best friend Harper (Jennifer Stone).
Justin pretends to be a doctor to impress ditzy heiress London (Brenda Song), Alex uses a pseudonym to have fun on board while Harper has to pose as her to attend a mandatory class. The Suite Life on Deck episode has Zack (Sprouse) suspected of a prank and Cody (Sprouse) trying to win tickets to the Hannah Montana concert for Bailey (Debby Ryan). The Hannah Montana episode has Hannah (Miley Cyrus) coming aboard to give the aforementioned concert, but also losing her late mother’s lucky anklet.
She and her best friend Lilly (Emily Osment) tear the boat apart looking for it because it’s causing Hannah/Miley’s luck to turn sour.
I can’t think of anything more torturous than having to sit through three, count ‘em three!, episodes of these Disney shows. Maybe I’m being too snarky since the shows are made for an age group that my years far outnumber. The acting is extremely over-the-top and that’s what bugs me the most.
There’s far too much face pulling and exaggeration. I hope these kids are saving their pennies so we won’t hear about them robbing liquor stores if this is the extent of their acting talents. I know. I’m just a grumpy old critic. Let me take a few hits from my oxygen tank and down my fiber laxative. Ah…. That’s better. No doubt, if you’re fans of one or more of the shows you’ll be thrilled by this “Disney Channel event.”
It gives you the opportunity to have several of your favorite stars interact and no doubt the numerous commercials playing on the channel will have you worked up with eager anticipation of the evening’s event. You’ll be thrilled, but I can only roll my eyes when my kids turn on one of these shows.
Wizards on Deck with Hannah Montana is presented in fullscreen. Special features include the 3 minute “How to Write an Essay” which is one part useful academic advice and one part comedy, the 5 minute “It’s a Suite Life having fun with Hannah and the Wizards” in which the young stars talk about the crossover event, a 4 minute “Blu-ray is Suite” promo with the Sprouses, a 1 minute bit about DisneyFile digital copy, and trailers for other Disney products.
If you’re a regular viewer of any of the shows mashed up for this event then you’ll most likely have seen them already. If your kidlings want to rewatch them you’ll be running down to the video shoppe to get it for them. Otherwise you could wait for reruns.
Wizards on Deck with Hannah Montana is now available at Amazon . As of yet, there is not a release date for this version of the DVD in the UK. Visit the DVD database for more information.
