As Season Eight opens Clark Kent has finally become a reporter at the Daily Planet and is working closely with Lois Lane, who thinks he is in way over his depth. Coincidently there is a new hero in town, known as the Red-Blue Blur. It is a time of changes and new faces, so fans of the series won’t want to miss a second of this DVD set.
The Fortress of Solitude has been destroyed by Lex Luthor, who is now missing, and Clark apparently has lost his powers courtesy of his Kryptonian father. Green Arrow, Black Canary and AquaMan are searching for their friend. Chloe’s power of intelligence has been ramped up and thinking that she is imprisoned by the Federal Government she willingly uses her power to locate a “terrorist” cell.
Unfortunately it is Oliver Queen, Arthur Curry and Dinah Lance, the aliases for Clark’s super friends, who are being hunted and are captured. In this first episode the stage is set for the remainder of the season, which will be one of changes, opportunities, new allies and fresh villains.
We have always been entertained by the series Smallville. For those who grew up reading Superboy and Superman comics, and watched the late (and sorely missed) great Christopher Reeve bring our hero to vibrant life, Smallville adds facets to the story and color to the background of Clark’s life that makes it even more intriguing. Through the years we have watched Clark and his friends grow up and viewers feel that they are privy to knowledge of the heart and soul of Superman in the making.
In Season Eight, Clark is on the move from being Superboy to becoming Superman, but he hasn’t quite established an identity yet. Viewers will see Oliver Queen as “Green Arrow” serve as a role model for Clark as he explores his new life as reporter with a secret mission.
Clark begins to help Metropolis’s innocent victims as a mysterious entity called the Red-Blue Blur, based on eyewitness accounts of his interventions. As Lex Luthor is out of the picture, LutherCorp is being run by Tess Mercer (Cassidy Freeman) and a new villain appears on the scene as Davis Bloome (Sam Witwer) becomes aware that he is harboring the evil “Doomsday.”
Smallville: The Complete Season Eight is presented on six discs containing all 22 episodes. These are in widescreen format and are packed in a single case illustrated with stills from the series.
Included in the case is a sixteen page booklet with information, episode synopses and production notes, and many stills from the episodes as illustrations.
Special features include unaired scenes for some of the episodes, commentaries on two of the key stories, a featurette “In the Director’s Chair” which explores the directorial debut of Alison Mack (Chloe) and another featurette “Smallville’s Doomsday: The Making of a Monster,” which gives background and production information about the newest villain on the show.
Riveting stories, and good special effects along with actors that make viewers care is the formula for Smallville as a series. Well done everyone involved!
